One 14-year-old youth was found dead just days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The investigation learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The inquest received testimony from educational staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they did not got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner told the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was released while investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
