One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a traffic accident in the area in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Officer knifed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam footage released by the force revealed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.
He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the street, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, ending the fight to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and more injuries to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.
The department stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's hemorrhaging before medical personnel came.
The latest honor comes subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local officer association in April 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The efforts of all three officers in the end protected each other and ensured no bystanders endured any wounds."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per authorities.
