During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 total net yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes left.
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a potential winning score. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach commented following the contest.
Rico Dowdle exceeded 200 total yards for the second straight week and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a game-winning kick as the clock ran out to secure the Carolina Panthers a narrow win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a goal-line stand and then signal-caller Matthew Stafford guided them to a pair of scores to start the second half in their 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
The quarterback passed for two scoring throws and the running back ran the go-ahead touchdown with 4:32 remaining, securing the Indianapolis Colts a close victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Sam Darnold passed for touchdown passes to his receiver and Cooper Kupp, and Seattle dominated the trenches on their way to a comfortable win.
The veteran quarterback passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers had minimal difficulty in their 23-9 win over the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback escaped the defensive pressure and found with his receiver for a 42-yard reception in the closing seconds, setting up the kicker's fifth field goal to secure the Los Angeles Chargers a narrow victory.
Drake Maye passed for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the road New England Patriots beat the New Orleans Saints 25-19.
