Citizens across all 50 states of the union will mobilize to march over the weekend, joined by a common idea: the nation is sliding toward autocracy and there should be no kings in America.
Countless participants are likely to join the No Kings rallies, constituting a further occurrence for this movement that earlier protested in one of the biggest protest events in US history. Gatherings are planned across over 2,700 locations, ranging from tiny communities to large cities.
The present president has cracked down on US cities, seeking to deploy federal troops while increasing border personnel. The administration is attempting to outlaw dissent, targeting liberal groups which are accused of backing violent acts or aggressive actions. Local governments have vigorously resisted, filing lawsuits to block national guard interventions, while citizens have taken to demonstrate to protest opposing the use of force in their neighborhoods.
Supporters of the president have tried to label the anti-authoritarian demonstrations as hostile to the nation and led by antifa, the loosely organized political movement, and alleging that the rallies are worsening the federal standstill. A prominent governor has stated he will send the state’s national guard to Austin before the demonstrations.
A number of elected representatives, including senators from the the left and unaffiliated backgrounds, are likely to attend the rallies. This anti-authoritarian alliance has consistently emphasized its devotion to nonviolent action, and tens of thousands of participants have trained on safety and de-escalation methods.
“What’s most important as a message to remember is the fact that the administration aims for citizens to become intimidated, but we will not be pressured into submission and inaction,” remarked an organizer of one activist group. “Furthermore, it’s vitally necessary for people to remain nonviolent, to stand proud and to say what they care about, without being intimidated by threats.”
In excess of 200 organizations have joined as collaborators for the October protests. Planners have designated a number of major hubs: such as DC, SF, SD, Georgia's capital, NYC, Houston, Oahu, Beantown, Missouri, Big Sky country, Chicago and New Orleans.
The straightforward premise of the protests is that America has no kings, a dig targeting the leader's growing dictatorship. Included in the themes planners have highlighted involve:
In the summer No Kings protests drew countless participants into public spaces, with estimates showing that between 2 and 4.8 million people attended events at more than 2,000 locations in what was “probably a massive single day protest following the president assumed power in January 2017”, topped only by a prior large-scale event in 2017.
