A chopper hovering near a popular coastal coastline suddenly started spinning wildly, eventually descending rapidly and smashing into a cluster of palm fronds as beachgoers looked on.
Footage posted online depict the helicopter beginning to twirl over the beach then plunging towards the edge of the coast, where it becomes wedged amidst palms and a steps near the Pacific Coast highway.
Local firefighters reported five persons were taken to hospital comprising two who were in the aircraft and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” subsequent to the incident on that day.
Three persons on the street were harmed. Information on their condition were not immediately available.
What led to the incident was not immediately released.
Authorities mentioned the chopper was connected to an annual “Cars with Copters” fundraising event set for the following day.
